Stitch Fix #1

October 21, 2015

Months ago, I sat down and filled out a Stitch Fix style profile. Then I walked away. My coworkers got their fixes and raved about the pieces they received, so I went back to the site and filled out the billing information, but I just couldn’t pull the trigger. I love shopping. I also love subscription based shopping because I LOVE surprises. Seriously, any kind of grab bag type deal, I’m all in. Even though I know stores throw all the crap they can’t sell into a bag, mark it down and call it a grab bag, I cannot resist. But I digress.

I’ve had a Birchbox subscription since the time when you had to know someone who had it and get a referral code to join. Then you had to wait a few months until they could accommodate another customer. So after repeatedly complimenting a coworker’s clothes and being told they were Stitch Fix, I bit the bullet and ordered my first fix.

In my instructions I told my future stylist that I just started a new job and needed more business professional clothes, especially pants. I need pants SO badly, but I do not need dresses. I purchased quite a few of those over the summer on mega sale at Dillard’s.

I thought my fix was suppose to ship out next Monday, so I was thrilled when I checked my mail and there was my box! Everything was wrapped so beautifully; it was like Christmas in October. Except I still have to buy the stuff.

Here’s what I got:

Margaret M skirt, gap tee shirt, matte black tieks shoes

Bay to Baubles Cadiz Crystal Gemstone Necklace ($34)

I am not a statement necklace girl. I have a few I got from my francesca’s days, but I usually stick with more simple, classic pieces. As pretty as this necklace is, I don’t think I would wear it much.

Margaret M Millie Printed Swing Skirt ($88)

I LOVE this skirt. It’s super cute on, but do I have a black printed swing skirt similar to this one. Can I justify both?

Blue Moon dress

Moon Rivka Dress ($78)

This is a really pretty dress. It’s flattering and professional. However, I specifically requested to not receive a dress in my fix, because I just don’t need them right now.

Margaret M Emer High Waisted Trouser 41Hawthorn Colibri Solid Tab Sleeve Blouse

41 Hawthorn Colibri Solid Tab Sleeve Blouse ($48) in dark pink.

My stylist hit the nail on the head with this one. She got my style so correct, I actually already have this blouse in a different color.

Margaret M Emer High Waisted Trouser ($98)

Do not be fooled by the name of these pants. They are leggings. I will admit, once I tried them on they are really cute and pretty comfortable. However, they really are leggings, and I can’t justify paying $98 (gulp) for bottoms I’m not sure I’d even feel comfortable wearing to the office.

I haven’t completely decided how I feel about my first shipment. My stylist did keep within the color palette I requested, but she didn’t seem to heed my plea for work pants. For my next fix, I am going to work harder on my fashion Pinterest board to give some more guidance in what I would like to receive.

What do you think of the pieces I received? Is there anything I definitely need to keep? Let me know!

P.S. Thank you to my dear boyfriend for taking my pictures; even if he was a bit concerned we looked crazy as I ran in and out of my apartment to change clothes.

Okay So I love the dress that you “don’t need”. It is supper flattering and can be made more reserved with a simple cardigan, but dressed up with a set of high fashion pumps and a bracelet et al. Everything else looks good to great on you but I always tell myself. Am I REALLY gonna wear, Is it worth the value? Or is it just gonna be something to take up space in my closet/another thing to hang up. I really love the dress though!
